Convert to camelCase
Convert any text to camelCase. Also includes PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE, and dot.case. Built for developers writing variable names, API field keys, and identifiers from a plain-English description.
How to convert text to camelCase
1. Paste any phrase or variable name
Drop a plain-English description ("user account email address"), an existing identifier in another case (user-account-email-address, user_account_email_address, USER_ACCOUNT_EMAIL_ADDRESS), or a sentence with mixed delimiters. The tool splits on every common boundary: spaces, hyphens, underscores, dots, and camelCase letter transitions.
2. Read six conversions in one view
The output cards show camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE, and dot.case at once. No mode selector to click. Pick the one that matches your language or framework convention and tap copy.
3. Copy a single case
Each card has a copy button. Clipboard receives just that case. The source textarea remains unchanged so you can iterate (edit the source, watch every card reflow).
4. Round-trip an existing identifier
Paste an existing snake_case identifier ("user_account_email_address") and the tool recognizes the underscores as boundaries. The camelCase output is "userAccountEmailAddress". This makes the tool a universal converter between any two cases.
Programming case conventions
| Case | Example | Used by |
|---|---|---|
| camelCase | userEmailAddress | JavaScript variables, JSON fields, Java methods, Go (with caveats), Dart, Swift methods |
| PascalCase | UserEmailAddress | Classes, React components, TypeScript types, C# methods, Go exported names, Pascal types |
| snake_case | user_email_address | Python variables and functions, Ruby variables, Rust functions, SQL column names, C constants |
| kebab-case | user-email-address | CSS class names, HTML attributes, URL slugs, command-line flags, Lisp/Clojure names |
| CONSTANT_CASE | USER_EMAIL_ADDRESS | Environment variables, Java constants, JavaScript module constants, C macros |
| dot.case | user.email.address | Property paths, Lodash get/set keys, lottery-of-dots config files, namespaced events |
camelCase vs PascalCase: when to use each
camelCase: instances and lowercase identifiers
camelCase starts with a lowercase letter. Use it for variable names, instance methods, JSON property keys, and JavaScript object fields. Examples: userName, getActiveUser, isLoggedIn, maxRetryCount.
PascalCase: types, classes, and exported entities
PascalCase capitalizes every word including the first. Use it for class names, TypeScript types, React component names, Go exported names, and Java class names. Examples: UserAccount, HttpClient, OrderConfirmation.
Mixed in real code
Most modern languages use both: PascalCase for types, camelCase for instances. JavaScript: const userClient = new UserClient();. The two cases coexist in a single line.
Acronyms inside the name
House styles differ on acronyms. Google's JavaScript style: treat acronyms as a single capitalized word (parseHttpUrl, not parseHTTPURL). Microsoft's C# style: capitalize 2-letter acronyms fully, 3+ as a word (IOStream, HttpClient). The tool defaults to the Google style; for the Microsoft style, edit the output manually.
Practical conversion examples
API field renaming
Backend returns snake_case (Python convention); frontend expects camelCase (JavaScript convention). Paste the field name, copy the camelCase output, paste into the TypeScript interface. For bulk conversion, paste all field names line-by-line and use the tool repeatedly, or post-process the source object through a key-mapping function.
Database column to ORM field
SQL columns are conventionally snake_case (created_at, user_id). Most ORMs (TypeORM, Prisma, Sequelize) auto-convert to camelCase in the JavaScript layer. Manual ORM mapping pastes the SQL column here and copies the camelCase field name.
CSS class to JSX prop
CSS uses kebab-case (border-radius); inline-style props in React use camelCase (borderRadius). Paste the CSS property, copy the camelCase version, paste into the JSX style object.
Env var to config key
Environment variables are CONSTANT_CASE by convention (DATABASE_URL, API_KEY). Most config libraries normalize to camelCase or snake_case. Paste the env var, copy the camelCase output for your config object.
Privacy and processing
All conversion runs in your browser. Variable names, API field names, draft schema, and internal identifiers stay local. Safe for pre-release code, internal API schemas, and any identifier that would leak product strategy.

Frequently asked questions
What is camelCase?
camelCase is a naming convention where the first word is lowercase and every subsequent word starts with a capital letter, joined without spaces or punctuation. Example: 'user email address' becomes 'userEmailAddress'. Used for variables, methods, and JSON fields in JavaScript, Java, Swift, and most modern languages.
What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?
Both join words without separators and capitalize each word. The difference is the first letter: camelCase starts lowercase ('userAccount'), PascalCase starts uppercase ('UserAccount'). Convention: camelCase for instances and methods, PascalCase for classes, types, and React components.
How do I convert snake_case to camelCase?
Paste the snake_case identifier (user_email_address) into the textarea. The tool recognizes underscores as word boundaries automatically and outputs camelCase (userEmailAddress) in the first card. Tap copy to put it on the clipboard.
How does it handle existing camelCase or PascalCase input?
It splits on lowercase-to-uppercase transitions. Paste 'userEmailAddress' and the tool tokenizes it as ['user','email','address'], then re-emits the case you want. So you can go from PascalCase to snake_case in one paste.
Does it preserve acronyms like HTTP or URL?
It treats acronyms as single tokens. 'parseHTTPURL' becomes 'parseHttpUrl' in the output (Google JavaScript style: acronyms become Pascal-case words). If your house style is to keep acronyms fully uppercase ('parseHTTPURL'), edit the output manually.
What is kebab-case?
Lowercase words joined with hyphens. Used for CSS class names (border-radius), HTML attributes (data-user-id), URL slugs, and command-line flags (--max-retries). The tool emits kebab-case in the fourth card.
Can I use it for SQL to JavaScript field mapping?
Yes. SQL conventionally uses snake_case for column names; JavaScript expects camelCase. Paste 'created_at' and copy 'createdAt' for the JavaScript field. Most ORMs do this automatically, but for manual mappings the tool is faster than typing.
Is the text sent to a server?
No. All conversion runs in your browser. Variable names, internal schema, and pre-release identifiers stay local. The tool makes no network call when you paste or copy. See also: Remove Accents.
