How to use the emoji counter
1. Paste or type your text

2. Read the headline number
The red total at the top of the sidebar shows the total emoji count. It updates on every keystroke and counts ZWJ compound emoji (like a family glyph) as one emoji, the way they render on your screen.
3. Check unique vs total
If total emoji is high but unique is low, you are repeating a small set. A high unique count signals a wide visual vocabulary. Most strong Instagram captions sit at 5 to 8 unique emoji.

ZWJ sequences explained
A Zero-Width Joiner sequence is a compound emoji built from two or more base emoji glued together with the invisible Unicode character U+200D (the Zero-Width Joiner). The result renders on your screen as a single glyph, but the underlying string contains several code points.
Examples:
- Family of four (man + woman + girl + boy with three ZWJ characters between them) renders as one glyph but contains 7 code points.
- Firefighter (person + ZWJ + fire-engine emoji) renders as one glyph but contains 3 code points.
