Paragraph Shuffler
Randomly reorder the paragraphs in any text. Useful for writing exercises (test which paragraph orders read best), proofreading (catch logical flow issues), and writing-class assignments. Not a spinner or rewriter; original words stay intact, only paragraph order changes.
How to use the paragraph shuffler
1. Paste your text
Drop your text into the Input box. Paragraphs are blocks separated by blank lines (default) or by single line breaks (if you set Split mode to that option). The tool keeps every word inside each paragraph exactly as you wrote it; only paragraph order changes. See also: Random Sentence Generator.
2. Set the rules
Keep first locks the opener so it stays the first paragraph after shuffling. Keep last locks the closer. Seed lets you reproduce a specific shuffle: typing the same seed value twice gives the same output. Leave Seed blank for a fresh random shuffle every click.
3. Click Shuffle
The reordered paragraphs appear on the right. Click Shuffle again for a different order, or change Seed to lock a specific one. Copy or Download to save the result.
When you need a paragraph shuffler
What this tool is not
The paragraph shuffler is not a paraphrasing tool, not a spinner, not a rewriter, and not an SEO content-spinner. None of those use cases work here. The tool does not change any word inside any paragraph. It only reorders blocks of text. If you are looking for tools that change wording while preserving meaning, this is the wrong page; those tools have separate ethical and SEO concerns and are out of scope for wordcounter.ai.
The use cases above (logical-flow checking, A-B testing copy structure, teaching paragraph order, creative writing prompts, proofreading) all benefit from random reordering of preserved content. They do not involve any rewriting or paraphrasing.
Detection rules
| Content type | Treated as | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blank-line-separated prose | Each block = one paragraph | Default mode, works for essays and articles |
| Single-line-break text | Each line = one paragraph (Split mode: line) | For chat logs, dialogue, social posts |
| Markdown headings (# ...) | Treated as own paragraph block | Headings and the prose underneath stay together if no blank line between |
| Bullet lists | Each bullet is a separate paragraph if separated by blank line | Otherwise the whole list is one paragraph |

Frequently asked questions
How does the paragraph shuffler work?
Paste your text into the Input box. Each block of text separated by one or more blank lines is treated as a paragraph. Click Shuffle. The paragraphs are reordered randomly while the words inside each paragraph stay exactly as you wrote them. Click Shuffle again for a different order.
Is this a paraphrasing or rewriting tool?
No. The tool does not change any word inside any paragraph. It only changes the ORDER of the paragraphs. If you need a rewriting or paraphrasing tool, this is the wrong page; this is strictly an order-randomization tool.
What counts as a paragraph?
Any block of text separated from other blocks by one or more blank lines is treated as a paragraph. A line break alone (without a blank line above or below) is treated as a wrapped continuation within the same paragraph. You can change this with the Split mode setting (split by single line break instead of blank line).
Can I keep the first paragraph in place?
Yes. Turn on Keep first paragraph if you want your opener locked in position. Similarly, Keep last paragraph locks the closing paragraph. Only the middle paragraphs are shuffled in that case.
What is the seed for?
The Seed field accepts a number or string. The same seed produces the same shuffle every time, which is useful when you want to reproduce a specific order or share a shuffle with someone else. Leave the field blank for a fresh random shuffle on every click.
Why would I want to shuffle paragraphs?
Writing exercise: a randomly-ordered version of your draft often reveals logical-flow problems that read smoothly in the original order. If a shuffled version still makes sense, your draft is too disconnected; if the shuffled version is incoherent, the original order is doing real work. Also useful for teachers building paragraph-reordering exercises and for A-B testing landing page copy.
What about lists, headings, code blocks?
Lines that look like headings (starting with #, =, or in ALL CAPS), bullet points (starting with -, *, 1.), or code (indented or fenced) are preserved as their own paragraph blocks. Turn off Smart paragraph detection if you want pure blank-line-separated blocks regardless of content.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Shuffling runs in client-side JavaScript. The input and output both stay in the browser tab. We have no upload endpoint and we do not log content. See also: Text Shuffler.
